Neighborhood Watch

PUBLIC SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS

capocares-neighborhood-watch-logoOn Tuesday February 23rd, about 50 block captains and concerned citizens attended our Neighborhood Watch Workshop held at Christ Lutheran Church. Capo Cares members presented information on how to set up a NW program and offered support to new block captains. We are pleased to report that 20 groups have now formed, and we are hoping to soon add a new group in Doheny Village. So far, the following streets have block captains: Del Gado, Seascape Circle, Camino Capistrano, Seaview Drive, Del Rey, Castillo Del Mar, Paseo Viento, DeSoto Way, Calle Del Sol, Las Flores, Via Saratoga, Avenida Las Palmas, Via Espinoza, Via Fortuna, Mill Pond and Via Catalina, Palisades Road, and Doheny Place. Please contact capocares@gmail.com to volunteer as a Block Captain, to offer to assist your Block Captain in signing people up, or to find out how to sign up for the program. For general information about Neighborhood Watch contact jnjackson@ocsd.org. Residents throughout Dana Point wanting to sign up for neighborhood watch should go to www.danapoint.org/neighborhoodwatch.

We have been in ongoing discussions with City officials concerning the possibility of imposing fines for those who are repeat offenders on code enforcement and nuisance complaints. So far, the City is reluctant to impose such fines and asks that we continue to REPORT EVERYTHING. The City assures us that all Police and Code Enforcement complaints are kept in strictest confidence and your identity is not tracked and will not be revealed. If you are still uncomfortable reporting code enforcement issues, please do not hesitate to inform your Block Captain or Capo Cares who will send in an anonymous report. Of course, in the case of police matters, always call 911 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at 949-770-6011, and be sure to keep your Block Captains in the loop so they can warn your neighbors of ongoing crime risks.

At the same meeting, we discussed code enforcement at length and have attached a summary of relevant municipal codes for your use when you contact code enforcement (always email capocode@danapoint.org) or police about code violations.
